Metal cabinets in the kitchen

For several years, I had metal cabinets. These are super slick and look great. I had stainless steel cabinets. So shiny and it just made the whole kitchen look so unique.

One problem: the smudges. The only problem I ever had was these darn finger smudges. And so when you wash the cabinet, which you must do often because it shows if it dirty, you must follow by drying and buffing. Long process.

But if you are willing to go through the hassle of buffing, these are the best looking cabinets you could want. And so durable, and if you put the dishes away wet, the wood does not suffer! :)

How is my SEO website coming along?

I have been working on my search engine optimization and search engine marketing website and blog to get it to rank the past few weeks. This has been very fun for me because I can knock all the other companies out of the water. Eventually, Canada will be mine! Mwahahaha. Not really, but I have London pretty much. Just one more week and I will have the number one spot for all relevant local keywords. That's that!

My site still needs to rank better for search engine optimization london ontario and search engine marketing london ontario, as well as internet marketing london ontario.

Also, my Casper the Friendly Ghost site is up and running. This will just be random stuff about Casper.

My internet marketing news site is lagging but I don't know what to do with this yet. The Technophelia blog is still up and I am still not sure what this should be either.

I would love to visit Edinburgh

I have some blogging buds in Edinburgh, and I would love to see more of the United Kingdom than the one time I had a stop over in the Heathrow airport. I was surfing the net to find out more about this beautiful place to visit and live. This town is full of history. The first Harry Potter book was written in an Edinburgh cafe, Robert Louis Stevenson was born here, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born here, and the word "caddie" originated here.

This town is full of interesting things to do, and in fact they have the biggest New Year's street party here every year. They have a huge arts festival in August that draws half a million people. Home of the world famous St. Andrews golf course, and surrounded by beautiful countryside and castles, Edinburgh should definitely be on my list of places to go.

There are plenty of hotels in Edinburgh as well as restaurants, this is no small town. They have over 400 thousand inhabitants and that doubles during the art festival so they need to have accommodations. There are some cheap Edinburgh hotels, and there are some very expensive Edinburgh accommodations to suit your needs.

Personally, I hate golf. But I always thought if I were to play golf it would be somewhere like Edinburgh. And I would enjoy it because of the history that accompanies the sport. And it would not feel as pretentious maybe as it does when I play snooty country club golf.

Vote Republican... For Bobby

The following video is of a political nature. Do not view unless you have a sense of humour. N.B. I am Canadian. Go figure.

Fan of the political parody, I had to post this when I saw it. I don't know why, but American politics is funnier than Canadian politics.

It is amazing, though, on the less humorous side of things, how much those cheeseball political commercials impact on the opinions of the more uninformed. If the TV says so.. :P

Free Virtual Makeover

I just used the Virtual Makeover program at MakeoverSolutions.com and it was so much fun... now I am just addicted. I have already done a few. There are so many options for your hairdo and makeup, and you can make yourself look totally different. They even have celebrity styles that you can use... I tried Gwen Stefani. Not so much.

It's so easy to use, as well. Here's how it works:
  1. Upload a nice photo. I wish I had done one with a white background and me wearing a lower necked shirt... oh well. But heed my advice: Do this.
  2. Using their the Virtual Makeover program you place a series of "guides" on your face so that all the changes will match up with your photo.
  3. Now you can start selecting your styles. You pick hair, hair colour, highlights, eye makeup blush, lipstick or gloss.
  4. Accessorize! I should not have to explain how to do this either. You should know. ;)
For my makeover I used Heidi Klum's hair, and then I just did some subtle green eyeshadow with black liner. I added a snazzy red hat to the look and presto! Not really a fancy look, but I needed something for everyday. I don't think I will be going back to blond anytime soon, but who knows.

So be sure to check it out. It's a lot of fun, and you can either have a free membership or a paid membership. A paid membership gives you tons more options, and I have no doubt that many will find this service invaluable as this way you can try stuff out BEFORE you go to the hairdresser's, which is especially important if thinking of doing something drastic.

Developing a facebook application

From what I heard at facebookcamptoronto2, a facebook application looks like it is a great way to market your existing brand on facebook or to start an entirely new venture. There are so many possibilities and since we are only beginning to explore what we can do here, the sky is really the limit. The focus should now be on increase usability and functionality. The most successful facebook applications will entertain and contribute to the social graph.

I have been bitten by the bug. Be sure to check out my notes for facebookcamptoronto2

Microsoft acquires Jellyfish.com, so how long until Yahoo! gets Loyalty Partners

Recently Microsoft announced its acquisition of Jellyfish.com, a comparison shopping site where the retailers pay per conversion, as opposed to pay per click or pay per impression.

Loyalty Partners operates an incentive based shopping comparison site that shows users the lowest prices from hundreds of stores and shares ad revenue with its customers in the form of airline miles, and is far more adaptable than Jellyfish.com.

This begs the question: Who will purchase Loyalty Partners?

Well, if history would dictate, it would likely be Microsoft, because whatever MS gets, Google gets one better. But, in this case, as Google develops their own ad and shopping platforms, I would imagine that Yahoo! would likely be the most interested and likely party purchase the Loyalty Partners.

Some interesting items about the DoubleClick / Google Deal

Okay so here is my little synopsis for what has been going on lately with the whole DoubleClick and Google deal. Really, I don't doubt it will go through. And sorry Microsoft but: pot... kettle... black.

Storm brews in the United States

Germany joins the protest

Microsoft wavers

They'll get it in the end

Microsoft will never understand something, neither will the remote German state of Schleswig-Holstein (population equivalent of Toronto Ontario), or any other state/corporate/the man entity. And yeah, and I do realize Google is a big corporation and that I should not put them on a pedestal. But Google is probably the least likely of all big corporations to screw over their users. Hands down. Anti-trust? We can trust them. Because they are not looking to cheat anyone or use the information to blackmail us or do anything underhanded. They want to grow like any other company, but they seem to have the USERS in mind, looking to always provide us with new toys, new search engine rankings to achieve. They give ME something to strive for in any case. So Pot (Microsoft) stop calling the kettle (Google) black (plus I don't recall Google charging me way too much money for a crappy webcam.)

Support environmental causes while searching

Greenback Search is trying to get internet users to use their search engine... but why should we? Because with each search, money is donated to an environmental cause. They even have a facebook application that let you know how your searching has contributed. Need another reason to search with Greenback Search? They allow you to switch to a black background, which consumes far less energy on CRT monitors. With so many environmental reasons to start using Greenback search, no doubt this will be a new internet user trend - environmentally conscious web surfing.

Google Alerts to Aid Bloggers

I just love Google alerts for helping me with blog topics. This week I am going to pick 5 sort of random topics, and see what I get. Then I will use those to write my posts for next week. With Google Blog Alerts, I always know what is happening in the blogosphere based on the keywords I select. It's just great for keeping up to date, and I have found that I much more aware of search engine marketing developments this way.

Be sure to set up some Google Alerts to ensure that your are making the most out of your blogging!

Updated Blog Design

I have changed the design of my blog, moving everything from my sidebar to the footer. I like the new look, simple and clean, not too much glitz to take away from the reviews I like to do here on this blog. I like the new look, and that my blog header has so much whitespace. Hopefully this will motivate me to blog more here, as I have been neglecting this blog for my other blog... I wonder why?!?! :P

I have some plans for this blog over the next few months, nothing major, just some tweaks to increase my ability to make money blogging.

Win A Free Raleigh, NC Getaway

Want to discover the hidden gem of North Carolina? Enter to win this great Free Raleigh Getaway!!!

Raleigh North Carolina

Included in the Raleigh Getaway Prize:

-One night accommodations for two at the Courtyard by Marriott Raleigh Crabtree Valley
-$25 gift certificate to Bloomsbury Bistro
-Free VIP admission for two to Rum Runners
-2 tickets to the North Carolina Theatre
-2 tickets to the N.C. Museum of Art’s Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism
-2 tickets to Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences

This is a great location for a Fall Getaway, as there are tons of cultural and social events happening across the city. I spent some time in North Carolina, and I can tell you that, in terms of scenery, it is gorgeous. This city seems to have all that, plus the metropolitan feel you get from being in a big city - plus... they do it Carolina Style!

I am a big history buff, and they have many interesting museum events that peak my interest. The Mysteries of the Lost Colony sounds really interesting, along with the NC Shakespeare Festival and I am such a sucker for Dinosaur Fossil Exhibits. And since my days will be filled with visits to museums, I can fill my nights with the many theater events, and there are so many restaurants that I know I could find somewhere that servers duck (because I like to eat duck at least once on vacation).

If you do happen to make it there this fall or winter, be sure to check out the Mysteries of the Lost Colony which explores England’s first attempts at settlement in America and also looks at what may have happened to colonists at Roanoke Island.

So be sure to enter the contest to win a free getaway vacation to Raleigh NC and discover the beauty of North Carolina.

Trying to create a facebook application is not easy for a non-developer

I don't know why I decided to create a facebook app, I just did. Silly me. I have never created anything like this. I can create great websites that rank well in the search engines, but something like this is a little beyond my scope. Hopefully I can manage to create something simple. I have downloaded the developer package, and I am reading some literature. I watched a really long video that did not really give me any information. I guess I will just have to dive into and hope I don't crash facebook. ;)
